Here you will have access to Online Financial Tools, our Frequently Asked Questions, links to other important university websites, tuition rates and deadlines and important SFS policies and announcements. ----- Frequently Asked Questions 1) Does my parent have access to my financial account? 1a) Federal guidelines state that we cannot give details about your account to anyone without your consent. If you would like another person to have access to your information, you will need to complete an online Third Party Access form. This form is available in Blackboard’s “Secure Apps” and on our website: sfs.fsu.edu. 2) What is the Account Refund Setup (ARS)? 2a) This form is required for all students. It authorizes FSU to deduct tuition and fees from your financial aid and also tells us whether you would like any remaining funds to be transferred into your SunTrust account or be mailed to your local address. This does not authorize FSU to withdraw funds from your account. 3) When should I expect my Financial Aid to be applied to my tuition? 3a) Financial Aid will be applied to tuition at the end of the first week of classes. Be sure to check your Online Account Statement to verify that your aid was applied to tuition and to check for any remaining fees. Financial Aid deferments are available until the fee payment deadline to students whose aid has not yet been received. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information. 4) Do I need an FSU Card-SunTrust account in order to receive Financial Aid? 4a) No, but we highly recommend having one. This free account allows you to receive your financial aid funds quickly and securely. Students must open the account by the fourth day of class in order to receive Financial Aid funds electronically. Also, please be sure to choose the EFT option on the Account Refund Setup (ARS). 5) I have Bright Futures Medallion Scholarship (Bright Futures 75%). When will I know my portion of tuition? 5a) You can calculate your tuition payment by taking 25 percent of your total tuition cost and rounding it up to the nearest dollar. Your Bright Futures will process at the end of the first week of the semester, and your total charges will be available on your Online Account Statement during the second week of class. Please remember that payments must be received by the deadline. We encourage students to use the online payment system or pay in person during the week of the deadline to ensure the payment is on time. If you choose to mail a check during the second week of class, we suggest using an overnight mail service. Please remember that Bright Futures does not pay for Summer Semester classes. 6) Do you need to see my Florida Prepaid Card? 6a) No. As long as you have an active account, we will bill Florida Prepaid once you are enrolled. Be sure to check your Online Account Statement for any remaining fees. The standard plan does not pay the local tuition fees or the transportation fee. The local plan does not pay the transportation access fee. All fees are due by the tuition payment deadline. The Florida Prepaid Housing program is processed through FSU’s Housing Office. All questions or concerns regarding Florida Prepaid Housing should be directed to the Housing Office. 7) Does Florida Prepaid pay for all of my tuition? 7a) Many students have the standard Florida Prepaid tuition plan which does not pay local fees. Students with the standard Florida Prepaid tuition plan, are required to pay their local fees by the tuition payment deadline or will receive late fees and risk having their schedules cancelled. The details of these local fees can be found in the Florida Prepaid section of our website. In addition, please note that the Florida Prepaid plan which pays local fees does not pay the transportation access fee. For more information please see our tuition rates and our Florida Prepaid Conversion Chart on our website: sfs.fsu.edu. 8) I have Florida Prepaid, how can I pay just the part that I owe online? 8a) You can view your portion of tuition by going to the “Make a Payment” link on Blackboard. From there you can click on the View Details button to see your balance. The “Pay Selected” button will allow you to manually type in the amount that you owe. You may view this transaction on your Account Statement. 9) I have Florida Prepaid and Bright Futures, will I still have a tuition payment due? 9a) As long as you are still eligible to receive both, you will not have a tuition payment due. Bright Futures will pay the remaining tuition left on the account after Florida Prepaid has been billed. After any other university charges are paid, Remaining funds will be refunded to you via the method you chose on your Account Refund Setup. Please remember that Bright Futures does not pay for summer classes. 10) How do I cancel Florida Prepaid for a semester? 10a) You will need to complete the Florida Prepaid Cancellation Request and bring it to our office by the third day of class. This form is valid for one semester only. If you wish to cancel the account completely you will need to contact Florida Pre-paid at 1 (800) 552-GRAD. ----- Common Questions for Other Financial Departments 1) Can I defer my housing payment until I receive my financial aid? 1a) You may defer your Housing payment only if you are receiving enough financial aid to cover 100 percent of your tuition and housing. You must request this deferment through the Housing Office. If you have not been notified that you are eligible for deferment, you will need to provide the office with proof of your award amount. In addition, students who have paid their rent deposit can get a payment plan which divides the semester total into four equal payments. Either option must be completed by the semesterly deadlines provided by the Housing Office. Please contact their office for more information. 2) Can I set up a payment arrangement for my meal plan? 2a) Yes, students can set up a payment plan with Seminole Dining in which the Fall and Spring charges are combined and paid over a period of eight months. A $350 down payment is required for this plan. Financial Aid students can defer their payments if they can provide proof that they are receiving a minimum award of $4500. The $350 down payment is required for this arrangement as well. For payment plan details, please contact Seminole Dining. 3) Do all incoming freshman need to purchase FSU’s health insurance? 3a) While all incoming freshman must have health insurance, you may not have to purchase the university plan if you are already enrolled in a comparable plan. You may view the requirement information at Thagard Health Center’s website below. If the FSU plan is required, you must purchase the plan before you can register but you can defer the fall payment until October and the Spring Semester until March. Please contact Thagard Health Center for details. 4) Can I defer my FSU Bookstore charges until my financial aid comes in? 4a) Financial Aid students can receive a deferment for charges at the FSU Bookstore for up to $500.
